About The Position

About this unit The 20 bed MICU treats severely ill patients using a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to care. Our patient population includes severe sepsis, acute respiratory failure, shock, acute respiratory distress syndrome, multisystem organ failure, gastrointestinal bleeds, diabetic ketoacidosis, hypertensive crisis and acute/chronic renal failure. About Royal Oak Hospital Recognized by U.S. News & World Report as the #2 hospital in Michigan and one of the top hospitals in the country. It is a major academic and referral center with Level I adult and Level II pediatric trauma designations. The advanced capabilities and clinical expertise within this center have earned it Magnet designation four consecutive times and has the distinct honor of housing Michigan’s first Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence. Scope of work Under the direction of a Nurse, the Critical Care Technician is responsible for direct patient care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The Critical Care Technician will provide care according to policies and procedures. Maintains critical care equipment and supplies as directed by unit management. Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety and specific job-related hazards.

Requirements

  • Basic Life Support certificate through American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Requires a minimum six months' exhibited performance as a nursing assistant or other inpatient caregiver experience, urgent care caregiver experience or a Nursing Student.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in critical care, emergency department, or EMT
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Current CNA certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately
  • Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals
  • Ability to trouble shoot and problem-solve various unit equipment and supply issues
  • Ability to manage multiple diverse tasks in an inherently high-acuity, high-pressure environment.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Basic computer knowledge
