As a Registered Nurse in the Stepdown Unit at CHI St. Vincent, the role involves helping patients transition from intensive care to achieve optimal health and independence, enabling them to return home safely. Daily responsibilities include providing direct patient care, such as medication administration, monitoring vital signs, and managing complex patient needs. Effective collaboration with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and their families is expected. Success in this role requires strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.

Requirements

Registered Nurse license in good standing, State of Arkansas or compact state license required prior to start date
12 months of acute care experience is required
BLS through the American Heart Association is required within 30 days
ACLS through the American Heart Association is required within 90 days

Previous step down and/or ICU experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care, including medication administration, monitoring vital signs, and managing complex patient needs
Collaborate effectively with physicians, other healthcare providers, and patients and their families
Check patients' health status daily and make note of any changes or concerns
Care for multiple patients throughout the same shift, often varying in age and condition
Monitor patients with life-saving medical equipment such as IVs, catheters, feeding tubes and ventilators
Provide a comfortable and secure environment for the patient while acting as their advocate
