About The Position

This role focuses on providing professional and nonprofessional nursing care services in accordance with physician orders. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Nursing Support duties: Provides basic care services to patients, but does not have an RN or LPN license. Positions in this nursing support work under the direction of physicians, mid-level practitioners, and may work under the direction of registered nurses depending on their unit. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Nice To Haves

• Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assistant (MA).
• Completion of Nursing Fundamentals in an accredited Nursing program.
• One (1) year of related experience as a Nursing Assistant (NA), Patient Care Assistant (PCA), Critical Care Tech (CCT), or Patient Care Tech (PCT).

Responsibilities

• Provides, or assists patients with mobilization in a safe, efficient and respectful manner.
• Reviews and follows activity orders in EMR including activity restrictions and limitations to mobilization.
• Greets patients, families, visitors and other staff utilizing the principles of Tufts Medical Center service standards.
• Communicates the patients clinical data, including observations, symptoms and deviations from normal to the assigned nurse in a timely manner.
• Completes mobilization documentation in the EMR in accurate and timely manner.
• Provides comfort measures such as turning and repositioning, to patients in an efficient, safe, and respectful manner.
• Completes wound care competencies.
• Maintains patient and family confidentially, privacy and dignity at all times.
• Maintains cleanliness of equipment by cleaning equipment according to manufacturer, hospital and departmental policies.
• Promotes patient activity by assisting with mobility and range of motion exercises as assigned.
• Assists with skin assessment and treatments within their scope and under the direction of a registered nurse.
• Connects monitoring equipment to patient under the direction of the nurse.
• Responds to patient and family requests promptly, seeking nurses supervision as needed.
• Uses proper body mechanics and ensures patient dignity in the preparation and execution of patient mobility.
• Assesses patient presentation, environmental safety and uses safe patient handling techniques.
• Transfers patients safely from surface to surface and seeks guidance/assistance when needed.
• Promotes patient mobility by educating patients and families as appropriate.
• Seeks assistance from nursing or therapy to manage lines/tubes as appropriate.
• Consistently follows fall prevention strategies and policies during and upon exiting a patient room.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being cared for.
• Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
• Promotes quality, safety, regulatory and patient and family satisfaction.
• Utilizes AMPAC assessment tool to determine level of mobility when needed.
• Assists in orientation of additional technicians.
