About The Position

An advanced practice practitioner is responsible for the evaluation and management of critical care patients in the Intensive Care setting, treats and manages acute and chronic illness/injury through the administering, dispensing and prescribing of therapeutic measures, tests, procedures and drugs, as defined in written practice guidelines and protocols signed and approved by the Critical Care Medical Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree and degree from acceptable Type A Physician Assistant Program recognized by the Board of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, or from a program otherwise designated for Physician Assistants which has been approved by the NC Board of Medical Examiners or the AMA.
  • Must be registered with the NC Board of Medical Examiners as a Physician Assistant, or be eligible within two years of completing PA program.
  • Registered Nurse who has successfully completed a graduate nursing education program, with board certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, or eligibility for board certification within two years of completing the NP program.
  • Current and valid NC license to practice as a registered nurse, with NC Board of Nursing and NC Medical Board approval to use the title Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid DEA number from the Drug Enforcement Agency.
  • Must complete 30 hours of continuing education every 2 years approved by relevant credentialing bodies, of which 3 hours must be the study of medical and social effects of substance abuse, including abuse of prescription drugs, controlled substances and illicit drugs.
  • BCLS certification and ACLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Nurse Practitioners with MSN and valid FNP certificate upon hire.
  • Physician Assistants with valid certification by the AMA as a PA, upon hire.
  • Previous experience as a NP or PA in an acute care or physician's practice setting.
  • ACLS certified upon hire.
