About The Position

Position Overview: The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner provides advanced clinical support to the ICU team during night shifts. Serving as a vital member of the interdisciplinary team, the NP functions as a physician extender, acting as the first point of contact for ICU admissions, collaborating with bedside nurses and respiratory therapists, and managing urgent patient care needs in real time. This position helps maintain continuity of care and improves responsiveness in the ICU overnight hours, covering a diverse patient population including those with respiratory failure, cardiac and cardiothoracic surgical conditions, sepsis, renal failure, neurologic emergencies, and other critical illnesses. Core competencies include excellent clinical judgement and critical thinking skills, strong communication and teamwork abilities, ability to function autonomously while recognizing the need for consultation, commitment to high quality, patient-centered care, and a calm, professional demeanor under pressure and in emergent situations.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Current CA Registered Nurse License
  • National Board Certification (American Associate of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Credentialing Center)
  • Current DEA license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification
  • Two (2) years of experience in acute inpatient or critical care setting
  • Proficiency with ventilator management, hemodynamic monitoring, and ICU protocols

Nice To Haves

  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) ACNP or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGANP) Certification
  • Prior ICU or hospitalist night shift experience
  • Comfort with high-acuity decision-making and managing complex cases independently overnight
  • Skills in bedside procedures (e.g., intubation, central line placement)
  • Familiar with Epic EMR system
