About The Position

The position is for a Patient Care Assistant in the Emergency Department at Advocate Christ Medical Center. The role involves providing technical, direct patient care to assist Emergency Department (ED) and Critical Care (CC) staff RNs and/or physicians. Responsibilities include assisting nurses in patient care and discharge, transporting patients, maintaining cleanliness of storage areas, and preparing equipment and sterile trays. The position requires effective communication and a commitment to teaching and learning, as well as adapting to changes in the organization.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of PCA class/SA class within 6 months of hire.
  • Certified Nurse Assistant or equivalent experience and/or one year phlebotomy experience and/or one year respiratory care experience and/or EKG experience.
  • Basic computer knowledge is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate with others.
  • Courteous and professional interpersonal skills.
  • CPR Certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Emergency Department (ED) and Critical Care (CC) staff RNs and/or physicians with direct patient care skills.
  • Provide assistance to nurses in the care and discharge of patients as needed.
  • Transport patients to and from ancillary departments and admitted patients to their assigned rooms.
  • Demonstrate complete, accurate, professional communication practices.
  • Provide needed supplies used throughout various areas of the department/unit.
  • Maintain cleanliness of storage areas and prepare equipment and sterile trays used in the department/unit.
  • Anticipate and solve routine daily problems/events.
  • Commit to teaching and learning and support organizational changes.
