The Crisis Support Specialist provides essential support to staff within the Crisis Unit. This role encompasses a variety of duties including assisting with group and individual activities, monitoring the unit to ensure safety, managing paperwork, and performing basic cooking and cleaning tasks. The specialist is responsible for effectively listening and responding to consumers, reporting observations to nurses for progress notes, and completing necessary documentation. They maintain regular contact with consumers to coordinate activities on the unit and participate in recreational activities while prioritizing the safety of both staff and the high-risk consumer population. The position requires a strong awareness of the high-risk environment, adherence to detailed procedures, and often involves maintaining one-on-one contact with high-risk consumers. Crisis Support Specialists also assist team members in verbal and physical interventions to ensure consumer safety, help with program-related cooking and cleaning, and monitor and purchase supplies such as games, refreshments, and other necessary items. Continuous professional development is expected through participation in ongoing in-service education, staff meetings, workshops, and seminars. The role demands the ability to manage diverse tasks and adapt quickly to changing demands, as well as supporting the facilitation of Care Plans for consumers.
