The Sacramento Crisis Nursery is a family-strengthening program, where parents can bring their children ages 0-5 to one of two Sacramento nurseries for emergency childcare services or overnight care during difficult times. Our mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing support to families in times of crisis. The Crisis Nursery Evening Supervisor (CNS) has primary responsibility for supervising the evening operation of the Nursery. The CNS oversees the staffing, health, safety, and care of children in accordance with program licenses and agency policies and systems. In the absence of the Program Manager, the CNS accepts administrative responsibility for the program. The CNS ensures age-appropriate activities are utilized to meet the needs of the children.

Requirements

  • Must have completed 12 postsecondary semester units or equivalent quarter units, with a passing grade, as determined by institution. Classes must have a focus on Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Child Health at an accredited college or university.
  • At least 3 semester units, or equivalent quarter units, shall include coursework in the care of infants. Six (6) months experience in a position providing direct care of infants may be substituted for the 3 semester units in the care of infants.
  • Six months of work experience in a licensed group home, licensed infant care center, or comparable licensed group childcare program is required.
  • A master’s degree from an accredited graduate school or a state-approved graduate school in social work or social welfare, marriage, family and child counseling, counseling psychology or human services, with a minimum of three years of experience in the field of child or family services, two years of which have been in an administrative or managerial position.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of five years of experience in the field of child or family services, two years of which have been in an administrative or managerial position.
  • Driving is an essential function of this job. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is required. Must be at least 21 years old.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the child-focused services of the Crisis Nursery.
  • In the Program Manager’s absence, provides support to the Program Assistant as needed.
  • Plans and implements developmentally age-appropriate activities consistent with Plan of Operation and Community Care licensing regulations.
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of the children at all times in a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Selects materials to meet classroom needs and coordinates with Program Manager for approval and purchases.
  • Monitors the use of overtime, ensuring compliance with budgetary constraints and consults with the Program Manager as needed to ensure compliance.
  • Conducts internal program evaluations and monitoring with other Nursery Supervisors and Program Manager for continuous quality improvement.
  • Coordinates and conducts staff meetings as required.
  • Participates in on-call system as developed by Crisis Nursery management.
  • Attends program and agency meetings and trainings as assigned by Program Manager.
  • Ensures compliance with SCH/Crisis Nursery Policies and Systems.
  • Develops and maintains a collaborative relationship with other Crisis Nursery Supervisors and works on joint projects as assigned.
  • Participates with Program Manager in certification of volunteers.
  • Attends community events and meetings to promote SCH/ Crisis Nursery program as time permits.
  • Assists in providing direct care to children as necessary to maintain licensed ratios.
  • Conduct shopping for the nursery as needed.
  • Assists with special projects as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Provides direct supervision of the Case Managers, Family Service Coordinators, Lead Child Care Workers and Childcare Workers, including hiring, training, evaluating and disciplinary actions in accordance with program and agency policies and procedures.
  • Consults with Lead Child Care Workers/Awake LCCWs to assess the job performance of staff.
  • Offers direction to Lead Child Care Workers/Awake LCCWs while giving feedback and advice to help with staffing issues.
  • Incorporates feedback from Lead Child Care Workers/Awake LCCWs for the completion of staff evaluations.
  • Consults with Case Managers and Family Service Coordinators to resolve client issues and provides feedback for resolutions.
  • Ensures a training plan is in place for all new and ongoing employees that meets licensing and accreditation standards.
  • Prepares monthly staff schedule in accordance with Community Care Licensing (CCL) staff to child ratio requirements.
  • Keeps track of occurrences, vacation and sick leave according to SCH Polices and Systems.
  • Supports, trains and ensures that employees comply with established safety standards.
  • Monitors, updates and approves electronic timekeeping system for all direct reports, ensuring accurate, timely recording of staff hours, coordinating with the Finance department as necessary.
  • Works with HR department to ensure compliance with SCH’s Human Resources policies and systems.
  • Ensures the timely completion and routing of all required original personnel and training forms and records for direct reports to Human Resources.
  • In the absence of other Supervisor will attend to staffing needs in the program.
