About The Position

Under general direction, manages Crisis Intervention Specialists for the Arlington Police Department ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Oversee all job functions delegated to Crisis Intervention Specialists, to include but not limited to: General scheduling of employees Co-responder model and field responses Mental health case management Community home interactions Homelessness Develop, schedule, and conduct training for internal and external stakeholders. Manage grant funds and/or locate and apply for grant opportunities. Seek out and maintain working relationships with community partners including hospital administrations, community homeowners/caretakers, and non-profit organizations with ties to mental health and homelessness. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintain subject matter expert status within the Police Department by seeking out training and development opportunities for self and employees Work within the department to support a multi. disciplinary approach for the more challenging cases in the community as well as develops alternative solutions to problems, evaluate a course of action, and formulate appropriate recommendations. Ability to maintain current knowledge of resources available for responsible referrals. Represent the department at various events and/or meetings of community groups to promote positive community/police relations. Field responds within co-responder to mental health or other appropriate calls for service.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work within police culture.
  • Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
  • Skill with organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.
  • Ability to work independently under general instructions.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
  • Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.
  • Ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks.
  • Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
  • Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to accomplish unit objectives.
  • Ability to understand mathematical calculations involving fractions, percentages, and decimals.
  • Ability to work within a set schedule.
  • General knowledge of grants operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health or related field
  • Three (3) years’ experience in crisis intervention.
  • May have an equivalent combination of education and experience to substitute for both the education and the experience requirements.
