About The Position

The Crisis Clinician Associate, I and II positions at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital involve providing clinical services to individuals experiencing mental health crises. The role primarily focuses on responding to crisis-related situations via telephone, offering support, scheduling evaluations, and documenting interactions. The positions are part of a 24-hour crisis service, and candidates will work evening shifts on-site at the resolve Crisis Services department.

Requirements

  • Crisis Clinician Associate: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work, or relevant fields with coursework in human services and/or mental health experience.
  • Crisis Clinician I: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Counseling or Social Work with one year of mental health direct care experience, or a Master's Degree with no experience.
  • Crisis Clinician II: Bachelor's Degree with two years of mental health direct care experience and one year of crisis experience, or a Master's Degree with one year of mental health direct care experience.
  • Consistent ability to respond calmly and effectively to psychiatric and medical emergencies.
  • Recovery-oriented interpersonal relations.
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, holidays, and assume on-call responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in mental health crisis intervention, case management, or in-home therapy preferred.
  • Licensure in social work or professional counseling is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully participate in and complete Crisis Clinician orientation process.
  • Learn to manage a shift caseload safely and successfully, as assigned and coached by the Lead Clinician.
  • Work with crisis leadership to develop assessment, de-escalation, documentation, and motivational interviewing skills.
  • Learn to utilize the Electronic Medical Record to obtain relevant information and complete documentation.
  • Provide supportive counseling to consumers to promote stability by utilizing a person-centered, strength-based model of intervention.
  • Work efficiently and independently in a crisis setting.
  • Support consumer and negotiate appropriate referral services.
  • Advocate for Consumer admission to Crisis Residential program when appropriate.
  • Encourage Consumers to consider admission to Walk-In program for further support and assessment when appropriate.
  • Meet documentation expectations and complete all required paperwork.
  • Respond to telephone calls from consumer(s), community, and natural supports.
  • Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary activities such as trainings and staff meetings.
  • Complete case reviews.

Benefits

  • Sign on Bonus: $3500 for a 2-year work commitment, $5000 for a 3-year work commitment.
