The Office of Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) is seeking a Criminalist III specializing in Forensic Biology. This position is a promotional opportunity within the department, which is dedicated to investigating cases of individuals who die under various circumstances in New York City, including criminal violence, accidents, suicides, and other suspicious situations. The OCME's core mission is to protect public health and serve impartial justice through forensic science and medicine, providing critical answers to families and communities during times of profound need. As a Criminalist III, the selected candidate will work under the direction of a Criminalist IV and will be responsible for conducting scientific analyses on physical evidence submitted to the Forensic Biology department. This role involves performing a wide range of scientific analyses on both simple and complex cases, conducting administrative and technical reviews of reports and case files, and serving as a forensic expert in legal proceedings. The Criminalist III may also assist in the development, validation, and implementation of new laboratory methods and procedures, as well as participate in quality control and quality assurance programs as outlined in the Forensic Biology manuals. The position requires a strong commitment to maintaining the highest standards of forensic analysis and contributing to the overall mission of the OCME.
