About The Position

The Criminalist I position involves performing chemical, biological, and physical analyses on various substances related to police investigations, including narcotics and firearms. The role requires preparing evidence for court presentations and testifying as an expert witness, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Must be a United States citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
• Bachelor's Degree in Criminalistics, Forensic Science, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Digital Forensics, or Computer Forensics.
• Alternatively, a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related physical or biological science with one year of professional Criminalistics experience in specified areas.
• Completion of 8 semester/12 quarter units in general chemistry and 3 semester/4 quarter units in organic chemistry or biochemistry.
• A valid California Class C Driver License is required.

Nice To Haves

• Master's Degree in Criminalistics or Forensic Science (may substitute for one year of experience).
• Experience in comparative analysis of handwriting or latent prints.
