About The Position

The Washington County Sheriff's Office is actively recruiting for a Criminal Records Specialist I/II position! This is an opportunity to apply your best skills in a broad array of administrative responsibilities and receive comprehensive, on-the-job training. In this role, you will provide vital support to the Sheriff’s Office by using a wide variety of specialized software systems which provide information that supports law enforcement officers, criminal court operations, and other jurisdictions. Additionally, you will receive instruction on how to create and extract law enforcement data and provide administrative customer service to members of the public, attorneys, or insurance companies related to bail, fees, towed vehicles, or expunction of records. Criminal Records Specialist I/II positions WILL work day, swing, and graveyard shifts on any day of the week, and MUST be willing to work on holidays and weekends. Criminal Records Specialist I: $25.91 - $33.05 per hour Criminal Records Specialist II: $28.57 - $36.47 per hour

Requirements

  • Learn and apply pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations
  • Learn to operate electronic controls, telecommunications equipment, computers, and other office equipment
  • Develop competency with law enforcement data systems and other specialized software typical to the job assignment
  • Work any shift and any day of the week
  • Remain calm and focused under time pressure or while assisting customers under stress or in urgent situations
  • Set priorities and adapt them as needed to complete all assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, and follow oral and written instructions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with customers, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Take instruction and direction and collaborate in a team-centered environment
  • Respond to angry, confused, or impaired individuals in a calm, professional manner
  • Selected candidate must pass a post-offer drug screen.
  • The selected finalist(s) for this position must be able to pass a thorough background investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office.
  • Criminal Records Specialist I: Three (3) years of general administrative experience; An Associate's Degree may substitute for two (2) years of the experience.
  • Criminal Records Specialist II: Five (5) years of administrative support experience. Two (2) of the five (5) years must include law enforcement or related administrative support experience. An Associate's Degree may substitute for two (2) of the years of general administrative support experience, but may not substitute for the law enforcement or related administrative support experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of Microsoft Office Specialist certifications (MOS) is preferred.
