About The Position

The North Carolina Justice Academy (with campuses in Edneyville and Salemburg) provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for law enforcement officers on topics including anti-terrorism, community-oriented policing, criminal investigation, traffic crash investigation, firearms, self-defense, and management and supervision. Additionally, the Academy provides basic, intermediate, and advanced training for Detention Officers and Telecommunicators on behalf of the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission. This position is located at the North Carolina Justice Academy in Salemburg, assigned to the Training Division, and is responsible for coordinating and instructing advanced and specialized criminal justice training curricula.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in criminology, criminal justice, one of the social sciences, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressively responsible experience in the field.
  • Bachelor's degree in criminology, criminal justice, one of the social sciences, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of progressively responsible experience.
  • Certification as a Criminal justice instructor under the authority of G.S. 17-C.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to market programs in the specialized content area.
  • Knowledge of general criminal justice practices and current educational methodologies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in the instruction of Firearms.
  • Considerable knowledge of multimedia and distance learning technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct training needs analysis in assigned areas of expertise.
  • Enhance the curricula to support the training design through research of advanced and specialized subject matter.
  • Develop curricula for both traditional on-site and distance learning means of delivery.
  • Design training, constructing performance objectives, organizing objectives into topic areas, and determining student performance evaluation levels.
  • Ensure there is a proposed schedule of advanced and specialized training in assigned content areas.
  • Utilize criminal justice agency inputs, focus groups, and waiting lists to maintain regional and geographic balance.
  • Guarantee that all criterion-referenced testing mechanisms are correctly administered.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of advanced and specialized criminal justice curricula using survey methodology.
  • Provide and deliver instruction in identified content areas, including preparing lesson plans and supporting materials.
  • Propose a projected budget as part of the scheduling process.
