About The Position

Pretrial Services seeks to minimize unnecessary detention by supervising eligible individuals who are likely to appear for future court dates and do not pose a serious risk to the community. We work with people who have been detained and are awaiting a first appearance with a judge. This work results in reduced incarceration rates, fewer racial or economic disparities, and reduced costs for the County. Individuals who remain in pretrial can maintain employment, remain with family, access treatment, and keep stable housing for themselves and their families. Provide professional-level case management to ensure compliance with court orders and enhance public safety in the area of responsibility. This position, under general supervision, will provide offenders with the skills necessary to function in the community and not become repeat offenders, through participation in treatment planning and the creation and implementation of a unified case/service plan. May be responsible for pretrial work with accused defendants awaiting case disposition, providing direction about where to receive needed services from community resources. Duties include linking and arranging services and advocacy. This position will be located at 715 E 4th St., Charlotte, NC 28202, and the work hours are 8:00 am-5:00 pm.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of directly related experience in case management and/or experience working directly with felony and chronic misdemeanor offenders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, social work or related field.
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License
  • Requires County Driving Privileges
  • Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required
  • Knowledge of best practices models for treatment of substance use and mental health disorders, person centered/goal oriented planning, recovery model, motivational interviewing, and problem-solving techniques
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of consumer’s rights and consumer choice
  • Knowledge of the court system
  • Knowledge of provision of culturally relevant services in a wide variety of settings
  • Skills working with individuals with substance use disorders and/or psychiatric disorders and effective intervention techniques
  • Skills accessing community resources and developing a network with other providers
  • Skills developing case plans
  • Skills coordinating professional and support services in various programs
  • Skills assessing individual needs, concerns, priorities and progress

Responsibilities

  • Meet with social service/criminal justice involved individuals on a regular basis to monitor, case plan, collect urine analysis, and crisis management.
  • Evaluates an individual's immediate circumstances, including environmental situations and availability of services/support
  • Prepares a variety of reports and documents related to the individual's services, progress, and/or other related issues/concerns
  • Monitors an individual's progress on a regular basis via office visits and phone contact
  • Assists individuals in resolving problems related to living problems in home, work, or social environments
  • Serve as a resource for internal and external providers
  • Service as a representative of Criminal Justice Services in court, various meetings, workshops, and trainings
  • Work as a part of an interdisciplinary team to foster inter-agency collaborations and research additional services or programs available to individuals served
