This position is located at the Office of the Inspector General for Tax Administration, specifically within the Office of Investigation. As a Criminal Investigator (Special Agent), you will be responsible for conducting investigations and proactive initiatives aimed at ensuring the integrity of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) employees, contractors, and other tax professionals. Your role will also involve ensuring the security of IRS employee infrastructure and protecting the IRS against attempts to corrupt tax administration. In this capacity, you will spearhead some of the largest, most complex, and sensitive criminal investigations that fall under the jurisdiction of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). The responsibilities of this position at the GS-13 level include planning and coordinating all investigative matters in accordance with Federal laws and regulations, as well as agency policies. You will be tasked with planning and conducting investigations to determine violations of IRS and Federal laws and regulations, interviewing subjects, complainants, victims, and third-party witnesses, securing evidence from outside sources, and preparing reports of complex investigations. If selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
