About The Position

The Criminal Intelligence Analyst conducts professional-level criminal analytical research, analysis, and reporting for case investigations and prosecutions. The person hired for this position will work alongside Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO) Deputy County Attorneys, Detectives, Paralegals, Professional staff, and outside law enforcement agencies to develop comprehensive information on suspects, victims, witnesses, associates, crime trends or patterns and associated assets. Requirements

  • One year of related experience researching and analyzing crime-related data/information
  • Bachelor's degree in law/legal studies, criminal justice, psychology, statistics, or a closely related field
  • A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License upon hire
  • Must obtain ACJIS Terminal Operator Certification within three months of hire or promotion and maintain certification throughout the course of this assignment
  • This position requires rotational on-call availability to provide response to after-hour inquires and notification alerts
  • May be required to testify in court proceedings
  • May be required to travel to perform certain work functions
  • NOTE: The Maricopa County Attorney's Office requires a thorough background check of all successful candidates and is authorized to test prospective employees for the presence of illegally accessed drugs. Drug testing is conducted once an offer has been extended and prior to placement.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in criminal justice, intelligence studies, forensic psychology, legal studies, or a closely related field, and at least two years of related experience
  • Experience performing professional research and analysis on crime-related information in a public safety organization is preferred
  • Crime Intelligence Analysis Certification or crime analyst training from an accredited organization such as the International Association of Law Enforcement Intelligence Analysts (IALEIA), International Association of Crime Analysts (IACA), Arizona Analyst Academy, or a college-level crime and intelligence analysis certification program
  • Crime Intelligence Analysis Certification or crime analyst training from an accredited organization focused on cell phone data analysis
  • Bilingual - Spanish speaking and writing

Responsibilities

  • Provide research and analytical assistance to MCAO Deputy County Attorneys (DCAs), Investigators, Paralegals, Professional staff and/or external law enforcement agencies via research in various databases, systems, and platforms to locate information in support of criminal prosecutions and investigations
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations on the use of criminal intelligence databases, proper storage of information, proper dissemination of information, and 28 CFR Part 23 regulations
  • Notify MCAO DCAs, MCAO Detectives, and/or originating investigating agency(s) of any possible leads generated from internal analysis and/or external databases in a timely manner; assist with follow-up as needed
  • Complete written products such as suspect workups, presentations, weekly/monthly briefings, bulletins, etc.; use tables, charts, maps, graphs, and other visuals
  • Use knowledge of basic research methods, descriptive statistics, and logic and reasoning to analyze research findings and/or data and draw conclusions
  • Prepare and provide verbal presentations to MCAO staff, County entities, external agencies, and the public to include case studies, crime trend briefings, training seminars, and/or prevention presentations
  • Compile and organize information for cell phone analysis, network association, link analysis, and/or timeline charts for use in case investigations and/or prosecutions
  • Participate in MCAO staff meetings, law enforcement briefings, intelligence sharing forums, and citizen/community meetings to gather and provide information related to crime patterns, trends, and case information within the County
  • Remain current on research, crime, and intelligence analysis topics, issues, and trends through various sources (e.g., crime and intelligence associations’ list-serves and publications, informational bulletins, newspapers, etc.), training courses, and organizational meetings
  • May train, direct, and provide oversight of MCAO Interns assigned to the Crime Analysis and Research Unit
  • Assist with special projects as assigned
