About The Position

As a Criminal Intelligence Analyst Specialist for the Division of Justice Services; assigns and reviews work, provides guidance and training to assigned staff; advises immediate supervisor regarding performance of staff; coordinates submission of timely and accurate responses to intelligence requests; prepares and disseminates tactical and operational analytical products; assigns and approves work of team analysts; provides investigative recommendations to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies: provides training to agency's in-house and user agency personnel; provides training to new personnel within the Unit on LEADS; communicates necessary information to supervisory personnel, including possible remedies to identified problems or deficiencies in LEADS, suggestions for enhancement and suggestions for the implementation of new techniques; performs administrative support functions to include, but not be limited to, writing procedural guidelines, bulletins, and special intelligence flyers; setting of team goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of college preferably with course work in philosophy, behavioral sciences, and law enforcement, or a related field.
  • Requires five years of professional criminal investigative experience.
  • Requires thorough knowledge of criminal intelligence analytical methods and procedures.

  • Prefers two (2) years experience using extensive knowledge of criminal intelligence analytical methods and procedures.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience using extensive knowledge of computers as utilized in criminal investigation analysis.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience using extensive knowledge of state, federal, and local criminal laws and regulations as they relate to the criminal investigative process.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience using the rules of evidence in criminal law.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience collecting and maintaining criminal intelligence files.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience establishing and maintaining satisfactory working relationships with coworkers, law enforcement personnel, and legal system personnel.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience applying criminal intelligence analytical principles and techniques in an accurate and progressive manner for efficient disposition of casework.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience working independently.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience communicating clearly, concisely and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Prefers two (2) years experience constructing court exhibits, criminal intelligence charts, and testify in court as an expert witness with proper courtroom demeanor, two (2) years experience performing literature search and other professional research, and two (2) years experience introducing user agency personnel to methods of collection and use of criminal intelligence analysis work products.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as designated lead worker.
  • Is the lead worker as a LEADS expert for the Unit.
  • Performs both routine and advanced casework which may be sensitive and controversial in nature, involves multiple suspects or multiple victims, expected to receive extensive news media attention. Travels to various locations in the state to conduct casework.
  • Assigns and is assigned in-depth research and special projects.
  • Performs other duties as required.
