We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Criminal Defense Legal Assistant to join our legal team. As a Criminal Defense Legal Assistant at The Jeffcoat Firm, you’ll be responsible for providing essential administrative and legal support to our attorneys and contributing to the success of our clients' criminal defense cases. This position requires a strong commitment to client service, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2+ years of administrative experience and customer service experience required, preferably in an office environment.
  • Minimum of 1 year of law firm experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in using legal software, case management systems, or Salesforce is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Calendar court dates utilizing an AI platform and ensuring entries are correct and all necessary documents are attached.
  • Calendar all additional OMVH summons and emailed summons.
  • Notify clients of all court dates via email and SMS.
  • Draft and send non-initial and OMVH continuances and notify client via SMS.
  • Ensure all Discovery is downloaded and uploaded into the proper platform, follow up on outstanding Discovery via email and phone.
  • Draft and file expungement and pardon applications, request SLED reports, and investigate and request dispositions from courts.
  • Assist with preparing physical files upon request.
  • Assist Case Managers with client questionnaires and fee agreements when necessary.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and legal staff to support seamless case management and workflow.
  • Handle administrative tasks, including mailing, scanning, and faxing important documents.
  • Attend required morning and monthly meetings.
  • Performs other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
