About The Position

The Attorney General’s Office is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the Criminal Bureau as a Criminal Analyst. The analyst will conduct open-source analysis for the Criminal Bureau. The Criminal Bureau is staffed by a group of experienced prosecutors who partner with Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office, financial investigators, and local, state, and federal investigative and enforcement agencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) to five (5) years of experience working as an analyst in the law enforcement, military, or intelligence field.
  • Knowledge of and interest in criminal law enforcement.
  • Expertise in open-source research methods, including social media data exploitation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with statistical software or analytical software.
  • Experience conducting research, synthesizing and interpreting data, preparing and presenting reports.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with staff at all levels with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interagency environment with federal, state, and local law enforcement and intelligence professionals.
  • Effective organizational, program planning, and communication skills.
  • An active driver’s license as travel across Massachusetts is required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and manage complex research across division subject areas, including analysis of telephone and location data to identify criminal plotting and conspiracy.
  • Analyze aggregate datasets and develop methodologies to determine root causes, patterns, and opportunities to improve public safety and generate investigative leads.
  • Use data collection software to compile and assess information received from partner enforcement reports and anonymous reports.
  • Conduct preliminary vetting of incoming tips and intelligence.
  • Solicit user participation in contributing information to various intelligence databases.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement officials and Assistant Attorneys General to identify gaps in existing criminal investigation and intelligence, to collect raw data, and to evaluate and support case progress.
  • Prepare, summarize, and present investigative findings.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other law enforcement agencies on deconfliction matters.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned in support of Bureau objectives and needs.
