About The Position

The Crime Surveillance Specialist at Metra plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of commuters and Metra's property. This position involves monitoring and assessing incoming information related to crimes, emergencies, and significant incidents that may threaten public safety. The specialist will utilize various surveillance systems and collaborate with law enforcement agencies to mitigate threats and enhance public safety.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety Administration, Digital/Visual Communications, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two years of experience in public safety, multi-media communications, or related fields.
  • Mandatory membership in Law Enforcement Enterprise Portal (LEEP) and certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Membership in FBI's eGuardian and Chicago Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) with certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Pass a comprehensive background check including fingerprints and credit check.
  • Good knowledge of public safety principles and familiarity with LEADS policies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good observation skills and intermediate computer skills.
  • Ability to analyze situations and respond appropriately under time constraints.
  • Ability to handle confidential and time-sensitive information.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • Experience with advanced operations of restricted police databases and government websites.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively with various agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess incoming information regarding crimes in progress and emergencies.
  • Utilize Metra's video surveillance system and other communication sources to detect incidents in real-time.
  • Evaluate incoming reports and take decisive action to mitigate threats.
  • Research archival videos to detect reported and unreported incidents.
  • Assist in retrieving video images for criminal investigations.
  • Organize multiple camera views for investigative presentations.
  • Create and transfer final video files for use in investigations.
  • Use a threat assessment system to analyze indicators and notify law enforcement as needed.
  • Maintain detailed logs of activities and observations.
  • Collaborate with government agency officials and assist in investigations.
  • Testify in court regarding criminal activities recorded on video.
