About The Position

The Crime Analyst I position at the City of Miami involves specialized and technical work in analyzing, organizing, and presenting crime data and statistics. The role requires collecting data from various sources, conducting thorough analyses, and presenting findings in a clear manner under the supervision of a designated authority. The analyst will work with crime reports, computerized systems, and Geographic Information Systems to provide valuable insights to law enforcement agencies.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 60 college credits and three (3) years experience in tactical, strategic, and administrative crime analysis or applied social science research for a law enforcement agency.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma or its equivalent and six (6) months of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Reads and analyzes criminal, intelligence, and other data from varied sources for summarizing and organizing as required.
  • Obtains information from federal, state, and local agencies concerning assigned research areas.
  • Furnishes criminal and intelligence information to department members and other agencies as directed.
  • Provides analytical information to assist in reviewing, analyzing, reporting, and assessing problems that may promote departmental solutions.
  • Manipulates, manages, queries, and summarizes raw data from MPD data sources such as Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) Calls-for-Service Data, Records Management System (RMS) Crime and Arrest Data, and other various datasets from internal and external sources.
  • Initiates and maintains correspondence with other agencies as required to obtain and transmit necessary information.
  • Maintains files of criminal and intelligence information, preserving confidentiality as required.
  • Prepares necessary materials for reports and presentations on current crime trends and patterns.
  • Attends and reports results of relevant meetings and conferences as directed.
  • Gathers investigation crime data; ensures that it is organized into tactical, strategic, and case management reports.
  • Assists other law enforcement agencies by participating in special programs created to secure, use, and exchange sensitive information with multiple agencies.
  • Assists with the distribution of information to concerned individuals and units.
  • Assists with creating processes and procedures for newly developed reports and training members on completion.
  • Contributes and assists in gathering information from available sources and researching data.
  • Continuously keeps abreast of modern law enforcement technology and analytical techniques, making recommendations to the department as appropriate.
  • Performs other related work as required.
