About The Position

The Site Maintenance Crewperson is responsible for a wide variety of duties. They should possess exceptional knowledge and demonstrate remarkable skills in the designated trade. They shall have the ability to carry out assignments and perform work of good quality with minimum supervision. They should demonstrate outstanding qualities in efficiency, initiative and dependability when completing various tasks.

  • Maintain appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver’s license
  • Superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area

  • Ability to use various equipment assigned to the job position as needed
  • Ability to use iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine
  • Comply with USD 259’s guidelines for equipment use
  • Uses hand tool of the trade and related power equipment
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and written in order to communicate with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a Supervisor when their discretion is needed
  • Ability to perform as an effective team player
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building
  • Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude
  • Must be detailed oriented
  • Uses good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments

  • Knowledge of various types of materials and procedures used in the area is essential
  • Ability to perform all tasks involved in concrete pouring, sandblasting, patching concrete, installing and repairing parking lots, assisting in installation and repair of playground equipment and fencing and various earth moving operations
  • Knowledge of federal, state, city guidelines, and codes and the ability to observe them at all times
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Word and Outlook
  • Ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues
  • Interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service
  • Must maintain a valid Kansas driver’s license at all times throughout employment
  • A CDL class A driver’s license is required or must be obtained within 180 days of employment
  • Once the CDL class A license is obtained, the selected candidate must register with the Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse and provide consent for USD 259 to run a pre-employment full query through the Clearinghouse website
  • If these steps have not been completed within 180 days of employment, the candidate will be terminated for non-compliance with Department of Transportation regulations

Responsibilities

  • Perform work in a safe manner and reports any hazardous conditions
  • Assist in maintaining good public relations, being cognizant that a Crewperson represents both the Facilities Division and Wichita Public Schools
  • Cooperate with other employees and maintains good public relations inside and outside of his/her assignment
  • Display willingness to be trained in all phases of the assignment and to increase his/her skills, thus, qualifying for advancement
  • Possess a work ethic that is strongly oriented toward both efficiency and customer service
  • Maintain appropriate licenses and certifications including a valid Kansas driver’s license
  • Possess superior knowledge of procedures, materials and equipment utilized in the designated area while displaying good workmanship, planning, and leadership
  • Support the organizational goals, the mission of the School Service Center and the district
  • Work cooperatively with others and assists in maintaining open lines of communication
  • Work directly or indirectly under the Supervisor
  • Daily schedule may fluctuate to accommodate deadlines and delivery of services
  • Perform proper maintenance and servicing of equipment
  • Deliver and sets up heavy equipment
  • Operate crane for replacement of rope on flagpoles, setting play equipment, and assisting other work areas when needed
  • Snow removal operations are mandatory
  • Assume responsibility for all tools, supplies and materials
  • Attendance required at meetings and in-services
  • Operate heavy equipment as needed
  • Operate dump trucks
  • Perform all tasks involved in concrete pouring, sandblasting, patching concrete, installing and repairing parking lots, assisting in installation and repair of playground equipment, fencing and various earth moving operations and relocating industrial arts equipment
  • Performs other duties and/or responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor(s) of BGMS
