About The Position

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Street and Drainage Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. This job is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. The primary responsibility of this classification is to serve as a member of a crew while providing general and semi-skilled labor for construction, maintenance, and repair projects. As crew members, employees work closely and cooperatively to complete tasks. Employees typically work under close supervision but may complete routine tasks independently upon receiving verbal instructions. Workers in this classification will use previously acquired knowledge and skills and must always follow safety regulations and procedures.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver License (CDL).
  • NOTE: If an individual is selected who does not possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License, that individual will be classified as a Crew Worker I and be compensated at the Crew Worker I salary range until such time as required licensure is obtained.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License within twelve (12) months from the date of hire/promotion/transfer/demotion.
  • Knowledge of and skill in following established safety procedures, practices, and regulations.
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions and work under close supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to operate basic construction tools and equipment.
  • Skill in using good judgment to solve problems.
  • Skill in effective and professional verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Performing general and/or semi-skilled labor associated with construction, maintenance, or repair projects using a variety of power and hand tools.
  • Operating heavy power tools such as jackhammers, concrete saws, truck-mounted cranes, etc.
  • Driving equipment that requires commercial licensure, such as platform or tandem dump trucks, pothole patching trucks, box trucks, etc.
  • Preparing and assembling materials, tools, and equipment for transport to and from work sites.
  • Assisting co-workers in the completion of daily tasks.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
