About The Position

As a Crew Scheduling Strategy Intern, you will help improve Crew Scheduling processes by supporting strategic analysis and project execution. You’ll assist with data‑driven recommendations, presentations, and cross‑functional collaboration, while gaining hands‑on experience in project management, compliance, and operational efficiency initiatives. Join Southwest as a Summer 2026 Intern, with a 12-week internship lasting from May 19 – August 7, 2026. Due to the nature of this role, you would be required to work from our Dallas, TX headquarters facility during business hours (2702 Love Field Drive). Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, including the ability to collect, manipulate, and interpret data and then package and present it to Department Leaders.
  • Must be a self-starter who can work with minimal oversight and seek out subject matter experts to obtain information and data in a professional manner.
  • Must be proactive in identifying opportunities to support fellow Team Members when bandwidth is available.
  • Must ensure accuracy of work.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to quickly learn about new business areas to identify and resolve issues quickly.
  • Must have the ability to properly manage highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel).
  • Skilled with developing communications and presentation materials in PowerPoint and performing analysis in tools such as Excel.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, processes, and procedures.
  • Skilled in identifying problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Skilled in leading teams to deliver on timelines and scope.
  • Skilled at requirements gathering across cross-functional work groups, creating meeting minutes, action item lists, and driving assigned actions to close.
  • Ability to handle simultaneous projects and tasks, and adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to collect, organize, visualize, and assimilate data, including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented analytical tools and visualization software.
  • Ability to collect and synthesize qualitative data into meaningful insights alongside quantitative analysis.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required
  • Progress toward a degree, major, or minor in Business, Business Analytics, Operations Research, Aviation Management, Strategic Planning, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or similar degree required
  • To be eligible, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time student (as defined by your university) at the time of application and during the internship
  • Minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • You must have a valid U.S. Social Security Number to complete the full hiring process
  • U.S. citizenship or current authorization to work in the U.S. required and no current or future work authorization sponsorship available.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress towards a 4-year undergraduate degree preferred
  • 1-2 semesters remaining at the time the internship ends is preferred
  • Experience working with quantitative analysis and data modeling.
  • Experience in developing and delivering presentations.
  • Experience working and problem-solving with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Gather, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data on the competitive landscape to generate insights that inform labor-related recommendations.
  • Synthesize and communicate clear insights from analysis performed.
  • Support the development of illustrations and insights needed to present analytical findings.
  • Enhance the department’s knowledge of key economic and industry-related topics and current events.
  • Interact with team members and leaders in support of Southwest’s vision: “To become the world’s most loved, most efficient, and most profitable airline.”
  • Define and execute project plans for multiple simultaneous projects or for a single complex project, including scope, budget, and schedule; execute tasks defined in the project plan to achieve project goals.
  • Validate and help develop business cases and drive alignment with customers, utilizing this to develop project scope, objectives, and goals.
  • Identify potential project risks, assess impact, and assist project managers in developing mitigation plans.
  • Assist in drafting status reports that convey project progress, overall health, and key issues to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support strategy consultants by analyzing data, crafting clear narratives, and assisting in the creation of executive-ready presentations that communicate insights and recommendations.
  • Drive research, analysis, and development support for new business opportunities when necessary.
  • Collaboratively engage with peers and leaders across the company to gather qualitative input, research hypotheses, and source data.
  • Pose questions and offer perspectives to Strategy & Portfolio team members and leadership to help develop project solutions and recommendations.
  • Lead and facilitate project meetings and presentations (including analysis) to leadership.
  • Work with stakeholders to draft slides or other media to communicate insights from analyses.
  • Strive for a high level of individual ownership when completing assigned project tasks.
  • Seek to rapidly develop subject matter familiarity, even if new to the topic.
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders.
