About The Position

This posting will be used to fill current vacancies in the Streets and Drainage Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City and is under the direction of an immediate supervisor. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The purpose of this classification is to lead a crew, averaging two to seven persons in the performance of various general and semi-skilled, hazardous, and/or moderately complex construction, maintenance, and/or repair projects. Employees in this classification must use knowledge and skills previously acquired on the job. The employee completes daily work orders and reports both in electronic and handwritten form. Work is reviewed by supervisory inspection, analysis of daily activity reports, and resident satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) (Parks and Recreation-Class A; Public Works-Class B or higher; Utilities-Class A or B dependent upon assignment).
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures, practices, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of and skill in using required tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of tools and work procedures used by a crew.
  • Knowledge and skill in using electronic devices such as tablets, laptops, and I-pads.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to prioritize and delegate work assignments efficiently.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to supervise and assume responsibility for the work of crew members.
  • Knowledge of Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Knowledge of and skill to set work-zones according to the MUTCD.

Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility for vehicles and equipment used and work performed by the crew.
  • The employee must know and enforce safety procedures and regulations regarding manpower and/or equipment used.
  • Work may include contact with the public to answer questions about the crew’s work or to explain departmental policies and functions.
  • Upon receiving written or verbal instructions, the employee transports workers and equipment to the job site.
  • The employee completes daily work orders and reports.
