About The Position

The Crew Chief is responsible for training and overseeing the daily activities of the Utility Technician staff in a wide range of duties such as laying pipes, lines, water meters, and other various activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and 3-5 years Distribution/Collection System experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License (Class A CDL required in order to drive combination rig of truck, trailer & backhoe) and maintains insurable driving record.
  • Level 3 or 4 Distribution/Collection System Operator license or Water/Wastewater License.
  • One Call training and certificate.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications & internet.
  • Ability to work with basic office equipment & phone systems.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, DOT regulations & Utility SOPs.
  • Communicates clearly & professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that prescribed schedules and operating policies and procedures are followed.
  • Making recommendations regarding improved operating systems and procedures.
  • Allocating work and providing technical direction, assistance, and training to other personnel.
  • Organizes schedules and emergency repairs in plants
  • Advises purchasing on the equipment required for the work
  • Ensures proper grounds maintenance such as cutting grass, weeds, brush, trimming trees, and any other related duties are completed
  • Responds to call outs and after hour emergencies
  • Excavates with mechanical equipment and hand tools
  • Operate various equipment – probing rod, motor vehicle, portable generators, pumps, chain saws, chop saws, jacks, sewer cleaning machine, etc.
  • Cleans and washes vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Checks oil levels and greases equipment
  • Creates and completes work orders
  • Diagnoses problems and performs repairs in water and sewer systems
  • Installs and repairs water and sewer taps
  • Installs water lines, sewer lines, manholes, cleanouts, meter sets, etc.
  • Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions.
