The Credit Underwriting Manager provides full leadership and supervisory responsibility. Provides operational/service leadership and direction to team(s). Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge through provision of value-added perspectives or advisory services. May contribute to the development of new techniques, models, and plans within area of expertise. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Generally, has responsibility for volume, quality, timeliness of end results and shared responsibility for planning and budgets. Work affects an entire area, which eventually affects the overall performance and effectiveness of the sub-function/job family. Full supervisory responsibility, ensuring motivation and development of team through professional leadership to include duties such as performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary and terminations as well as direction of daily tasks and responsibilities. Responsibilities: Lead and supervise team of mortgage underwriters, providing coaching, performance feedback, and addressing developmental opportunities. Effectively manage a pipeline of loans that include multiple loan programs and products to meet service level agreements, working with other teams as needed for load leveling. Collaborate with other departments such as sales, Collateral Risk management and Counter party risk to facilitate a smooth loan process and remediate escalations as needed. Track key performance indicators related to loan volume, decision rates, and quality standards to identify areas of improvement. Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with loan applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company guidelines. Stay abreast of investor policy changes, updates to underwriting guidelines and federal regulations and disseminate changes to the team, ensuring understanding. Develop and maintain procedures and tracking to capture daily processes (ARCMs). Identify breaks in systems or processes and escalate as appropriate for timely resolution. Assist with Corrective Action Plans and remediation projects when breaks are identified in processes. Support and assist with exams and audits as needed. Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations. Adhere to policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency. Perform other duties and functions as assigned. Leverage underwriting signature authority as needed to support pipeline. Qualifications: 6-10 years previous credit analysis experience required Previous commercial credit authority preferred Good corporate and merchant credit and exposure analysis skills Previous demonstrated ability to understand and interpret commercial credit bureaus, analyze trade experience, and utilize external financial resources to underwrite commercial credit requests is required Education: Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred This job description provides a high-level review of the types of work performed.
