About The Position

Varo Bank is seeking an innovative and data-driven Credit Strategy Manager to help revolutionize consumer banking by expanding access to credit and launching new, best-in-class products. In this high-impact role, you will use data to solve complex problems and drive end-to-end credit strategy, balancing portfolio growth with responsible risk management. By translating Varo's vision into customer-centric, profitable solutions, you will collaborate extensively across risk management, product, engineering, data science, operations, marketing, finance, compliance, and legal teams to ensure our credit offerings empower our customers and lead the market.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of experience building and managing credit strategy and understands full credit lifecycle in Fintech or retail banking.
  • Strong understanding of credit risk management in the areas of origination, account management, and collections, including traditional and alternative credit bureau data and functionality
  • Deep understanding of credit card or personal loan unit economics (LTV, CAC, Provisioning, and Cost of Funds)
  • Proven experience leveraging alternative data and FCRA-compliant internal behavioral data to drive underwriting decisions
  • Ability to translate complex credit risk concepts for non-technical partners in Marketing or Product to ensure alignment on growth targets.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and Python
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify problems/opportunities and propose data-driven solutions
  • Experience working with various statistical techniques
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Economics, Math, Statistics, Engineering, or other quantitative-related fields that are data-driven is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement credit strategies for lending products, including underwriting, pricing, and credit policies, from ideation to post-launch monitoring
  • Propose data-driven product and credit policy changes to improve profitability, customer experience, and access to credit
  • Use a combination of technical reporting tools (such as SQL, Python, R) and advanced Excel skills to analyze data to quantify performance, cost, and effectiveness for areas such as loan performance and strategic initiative
  • Create and present analysis to key stakeholders and executives, examples include identifying underlying reasons for variance from expectations, understanding changes in portfolio performance, and evaluating profitability impacts
  • Design and execute rigorous A/B testing (Champion/Challenger) frameworks to iterate on credit policies and pricing models.
