About The Position

The Credit Policy Manager is responsible for the planning, leadership, problem resolution, analysis, and governance of the bank's credit policy function. This hybrid position requires in-office work three days a week and will be based at M&T Plaza, Buffalo, NY, NYC, NY, or Suffolk, NY. The role involves managing the creation, maintenance, interpretation, and governance of all M&T Credit Policies via the bank's Credit Policy Manual.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Business, or Communications.
  • Minimum of 7 years financial services experience including lending or writing policy and interpreting regulations.
  • In lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 11 years higher education and/or work experience including 7 years financial services experience.
  • Two years leadership, coaching, mentoring, or supervising experience.
  • Experience dealing with various federal and state regulatory bodies processes and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to maintain strong working relationships with management and business partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the creation, implementation, and currency of the Credit Policy Manual including routine updates.
  • Ensure that all recommendations are properly approved and move efficiently through the governance process.
  • Manage the process for developing and maintaining all Corporate Credit policies ensuring consistency with the bank's risk appetite.
  • Present Credit Policy recommendations for approval.
  • Partner with business line leadership and coordinate Credit Policy working groups.
  • Interface with consultants and liaise with senior leadership to implement recommendations.
  • Facilitate communication of changes to the Credit Policy Manual to all stakeholders.
  • Work with Corporate Training to develop training and communications for employees.
  • Monitor completion of required training and follow-up with management.
  • Identify credit policy controls and provide direction and approval of test scripts.
  • Understand and apply M&T's portfolio and risks ensuring policies are well aligned.
  • Apply Credit Policy research to recommended policy changes.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and short-term initiatives of the loan administration department.
  • Lead multiple projects at the department or division level.
  • Responsible for contingency planning and regulatory compliance of the bank's credit policy.
  • Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing and performance management.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk.
  • Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain internal control standards and implement audit points.
