To learn more about CIBC, please visit CIBC.com What you'll be doing Join CIBC US as a Credit Officer and play a vital role in supporting our mission to deliver best-in-class commercial and wealth management financial solutions for clients across North America. As part of our US team, headquartered in Chicago and serving clients coast to coast, you'll lead credit risk management activities for a diverse commercial portfolio. In this role, you'll assist with the coaching and development of a team of credit professionals, oversee underwriting and credit approval processes, and ensure seamless client onboarding and portfolio maintenance. You'll act as a strategic partner to Relationship Managers (RMs), Market Leads, and Group Heads, providing expert guidance on deal structuring, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance. Your leadership will be essential in maintaining a strong risk culture, upholding CIBC’s values, and supporting our continued growth in the US market. How you'll succeed Leadership and Development – Contribute to CIBC’s high-performing culture by providing coaching, developing and feedback to first line partners responsible for underwriting transactions. Ensure your first line partners understand how your feedback contributes to CIBC’s goals and fosters a positive, inclusive environment. Credit Underwriting and Approval – Oversee and provide guidance on underwriting, structuring, and credit approval for commercial banking transactions. Exercise credit approval authority within assigned limits and ensure all deals are aligned with CIBC’s risk appetite and policies. Client Onboarding and Relationship Management – Collaborate with Deal Teams to optimize the client onboarding and closing experience. Act as an escalation point for resolving issues, and maintain direct client contact as needed. Portfolio Oversight and Maintenance – Engage with Relationship Managers, Portfolio Managers, and Associates to proactively address portfolio issues and ensure timely execution of reviews, renewals, and reporting. Sign off on risk ratings, pricing grids, and compliance-related reviews. Regulatory and Compliance Oversight – Ensure compliance with all applicable CIBC and business line policies, standards, and controls. Support the team’s readiness for internal and external audits, regulatory exams, and quarterly reviews. Mentorship and Training – Train and mentor team members on the latest policies, procedures, and industry standards relevant to underwriting and portfolio management. Serve as a resource for credit and non-credit topics. Operational Excellence – Recommend and implement changes to business processes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Participate in loan committee meetings and represent the group in portfolio reviews. Who you are You’re an experienced credit professional. You have at least 7-10 years of related experience in commercial credit underwriting, structuring, loan closing, documentation, and portfolio management. You’re a strategic leader. You bring proven experience managing and developing teams, setting objectives, and driving performance in a fast-paced environment. You’re client-focused. You excel at building and maintaining strong commercial relationships and act as a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders. You have strong analytical skills. You are proficient in financial analysis and modeling, with advanced Microsoft Office skills and familiarity with key banking systems and applications. You’re committed to compliance and risk management. You have a solid understanding of regulatory requirements and risk culture, and you ensure adherence to all policies and controls. This role has an expected salary range of $160,000- $170,000 for the market based on experience, qualifications, and location of the position (salary range varies based on the location which will be discussed at the time of the interview). The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business unit’s incentive compensation plan, which may also include a discretionary bonus component.
