About The Position

The Credit Analyst plays a key role in the evaluation and approval process for new and existing franchise applicants within Choice Hotels International. This position is responsible for assessing the financial strength, creditworthiness, and overall risk profile of prospective and renewing franchisees. The analyst will review personal financial statements, credit reports, business plans, and supporting documentation to ensure alignment with Choice Hotels’ financial requirements and risk tolerance. This individual works closely with Franchise Development, Legal, and other internal teams to support timely and accurate underwriting decisions that promote sustainable franchise growth while protecting the organization from undue financial risk.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in credit analysis, financial underwriting, banking, hospitality financing, or similar role.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Knowledge of credit scoring, liquidity assessment, and financial statement review.
  • Proficiency with financial analysis tools, Microsoft Excel, and reporting systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial insights for non-financial audiences.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

Responsibilities

  • Credit & Financial Analysis Review and analyze personal financial statements, including assets, liabilities, cash flow, tax returns, and liquidity evaluations.
  • Assess personal and business credit reports (e.g., Equifax, commercial credit scores) to determine applicant creditworthiness.
  • Review franchise applications to validate ownership structure, net worth, capital sources, and financial capacity.
  • Perform ratio analysis and evaluate financial stability, leverage, and overall risk indicators.
  • Identify potential red flags and escalate concerns following corporate credit policies.
  • Underwriting & Documentation Prepare clear, well-supported credit recommendation summaries for internal approval.
  • Ensure all financial data, disclosures, and supporting materials are accurately documented and stored per policy.
  • Maintain compliance with Choice Hotels’ credit review standards, franchise guidelines, and internal controls.
  • Conduct due diligence on funding sources, guarantors, and financial partners.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Franchise Sales to explain financial requirements and guide applicants through the documentation process.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Development, and other internal teams to ensure timely progression of franchise agreements.
  • Communicate decisions and rationale to internal stakeholders professionally and efficiently.
  • Risk Management Monitor portfolio performance indicators and assist in identifying trends across franchise applicant profiles.
  • Support continuous improvement of credit evaluation tools, processes, and guidelines.
  • Recommend adjustments or conditions to mitigate risk while supporting strategic franchise growth.
