About The Position

Mizuho Americas is a leading financial institution offering corporate and investment banking, financing, securities, treasury services, asset management, and research. The Americas Credit Department Real Estate team is responsible for credit analysis related to real estate industries, including REIT, home building, and engineering & construction. This position provides an opportunity to cover challenging credits, visibility with senior management, and exciting career growth prospects. The Credit Officer must possess in-depth industry knowledge and be able to make accurate recommendations regarding credit requests.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of credit-related experience, preferably in banking.
  • Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or Economics with a strong quantitative background.
  • Proven credit analysis skills and strong industry knowledge in real estate, home building, and engineering & construction.
  • Ability to analyze credit trends and assess default possibilities.
  • Strong writing skills for creating organized and in-depth reports.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and experience with cash flow projection models.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work with junior officers.
  • Effective negotiation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with Capital IQ, Bloomberg, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews and assesses credit applications from branches/agencies.
  • Provides effective analysis of credit including credit worthiness, loan structure, risk return, and financial profiles.
  • Creates various types of financial models and comments on assumptions in sensitivity cases.
  • Compares prospective borrowers to peers and summarizes industry trends.
  • Prepares clear and complete written summary analysis with recommendations for approval or decline.
  • Discusses potential changes to credit structure with branches/agencies.
  • Recommends appropriate risk ratings for customers/transactions.
  • Conducts comprehensive annual and quarterly reviews of each customer.
  • Engages in external meetings/presentations/events with various stakeholders.
  • Monitors and assesses assigned borrowers/industries and reports relevant information to senior officers.
  • Ensures compliance with credit standards, policies, and objectives.
