About The Position

The position is responsible for providing an independent analysis of credit quality for loan relationships of average to above average levels of complexity at the bank. This includes determining the borrower’s financial condition and ability to repay, reviewing credit facility requests for compliance with structural, corporate policies, and government regulations, and preparing accurate credit approval documents. The role also involves recommending appropriate risk ratings to borrowers or specific loans and supporting credit and lending staff through complex analyses. Additionally, the position requires conducting annual credit reviews.

Requirements

  • Requires a four-year college degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics with a minimum of six hours in accounting.
  • Moderate understanding of accounting concepts used in the preparation of financial statements.
  • Working knowledge of IRS rules used in the preparation of business and personal tax returns.
  • Experience in credit analysis methodologies and techniques, including pro forma analysis and financial projections.
  • Two to five years of specialized training, specifically two years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience.

Responsibilities

  • Determines whether information submitted for underwriting adheres to bank policy and procedures as well as regulatory requirements for commercial credit applications.
  • Researches and demonstrates a working knowledge of commercial loan documentation, agreements, leases, contracts, and other technical documentation.
  • Reviews loan terms and conditions to determine compliance with minimum credit policy and procedure requirements.
  • Conducts background checks and credit bureau inquiries to prevent fraud and assess credit applicants.
  • Analyzes higher-risk and/or specialized industries common in commercial lending transactions.
  • Spreads financial statements and produces complex cash flow analyses in accordance with bank procedures.
  • Analyzes and identifies historic trends in the customer’s business affecting repayment capacity.
  • Identifies appropriate financial covenants in concert with credit policy during the underwriting process.
  • Identifies significant credit issues during the underwriting process.
  • Works closely with other departments to address strengths/weaknesses in collateral.
  • Prepares underwriting documents for senior/executive management approval.
  • Recommends appropriate risk ratings for proposed loan transactions.
  • Occasionally accompanies lending officers on calls with commercial loan customers.
  • Provides guidance and oversight to Credit Analyst I employees.
  • Assumes additional duties as requested.
