About The Position

VCA Emergency Animal Hospital & Referral Center, located in the heart of San Diego’s Mission Valley, is seeking an experienced Credentialed Veterinary Technician Trainer to join our team and be part of the opening of our state-of-the-art, 26,000 sq. ft. hospital at: 📍 7675 Mission Valley Rd., San Diego, CA 92108 The Technician Trainer will play a vital role in supporting hospital growth, elevating technical skills, and building a strong, confident ER/ICU team. Requirements

  • Credentialed Veterinary Technician (RVT, CVT, or LVT)
  • 3–5 years of proven experience in a veterinary hospital (ER/specialty strongly preferred)
  • Excellent communication and teaching skills across varying skill levels
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to remain composed in emergency situations while fostering a learning environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and work safely around potential hazards (zoonotic diseases, allergens, animal bites/scratches, waste, noise, odors, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Assessing hospital needs for technician/assistant education, training, and policy implementation
  • Collaborating with hospital leadership and the Regional Technician Director to develop training tools, plans, and initiatives
  • Improving patient workflow by helping doctors better leverage technician skills
  • Delivering new hire orientation in partnership with leadership and the Regional Technician Director
  • Providing structured opportunities for hands-on training in anesthesia, critical care, and emergency procedures
  • Consulting and collaborating with technician/assistant teams to identify challenges and solutions
  • Mentoring team members and supporting the growth of externs and interns to meet educational requirements
  • Promoting a positive, low-stress environment for learning, teamwork, and patient care
