Requirements

• Certified Veterinary Technician (RVT).
• Experience in anesthesia and analgesia protocols.
• Ability to perform physical exams and monitor vital signs.
• Knowledge of intravenous fluid administration and monitoring.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with advanced anesthetic skills.
• Familiarity with medical math.
• Previous experience in a veterinary surgery department.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient procedures using knowledge of anesthesia and analgesia related protocols and procedures, including formulating anesthetic plans tailored to individual patient needs.
• Monitor anesthesia, troubleshoot anesthetic complications, and make appropriate interventions.
• Perform intravenous catheter placement, endotracheal intubation, and anesthetic equipment use and maintenance.
• Conduct physical exams; accurately count heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understand normal vital parameters and alert the doctor when abnormal.
• Set up intravenous fluids and CRI’s.
• Expand knowledge and skillset: advanced anesthetic skills including epidurals, difficult airway intubation, and critical case management.
• Operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors.
• Be comfortable with medical math.
• Take patients through entire procedures from start to finish (pre-op, monitoring, post-op, and recovery).
• Manage appointments, obtain histories, medical record keeping, invoicing, patient discharges, etc.
• Disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
