About The Position

The position is for a Medical Assistant in the Infectious Disease department at Advocate Health, located in Wilkesboro, NC. The role is full-time, requiring 40 hours of work per week, with a schedule from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The Medical Assistant will perform various clinical tasks, assist healthcare professionals, and ensure smooth clinic operations while providing patient care. Responsibilities include preparing and rooming patients, performing laboratory procedures, assisting with medical procedures, and communicating effectively with patients and the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Current Medical Assistant certification from an accredited body.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
  • Requires 2 years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding and navigation within a windows operating system.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all functions of a Medical Assistant I Med Grp such as preparing and rooming the patient, clinical integration focus, performing laboratory procedures, assisting the Physician/Advanced Practice Professional (APP) with procedures and administering routine medications.
  • Follows through with necessary procedure or test requests, pre-approved care algorithms, new appointment times and referrals to other facilities or services.
  • Communicates with Physician/APP and other members of the health care team to ensure smooth clinic flow and adjusts as necessary.
  • Performs basic and advanced clinical tasks or skills based on specialty skills and competencies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
