About The Position

The Creator Fellowship at Duke Farms is a hands-on opportunity for emerging digital creators to shape how audiences experience restoration, climate action and land stewardship. As a Creator Fellow, you will partner closely with Duke Farms Programs & Partnerships team members and the DDF Influence & Marketing team to create original content that translates conservation science and restoration into accessible, culturally relevant narratives. This pilot fellowship is part of our effort to expand our impact by connecting with new audiences through imaginative digital storytelling. We’re seeking a digitally fluent, culturally aware creator with a sharp point of view and a passion for social change.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience creating your own digital content from conception through capture, development, editing and publishing across widely used social and digital platforms.
  • Strong storytelling skills across social platforms, with a keen eye for visual elements.
  • Proven ability to tell stories in an engaging way on social platforms.
  • Video editing experience is required.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational abilities and communication skills.
  • Strong digital skills with experience in Zoom, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, InDesign, Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, and Photoshop.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills; a team player and self-starter who balances taking initiative and working across a distributed team.
  • Ability to work outside traditional business hours including weekends and evenings, as well as willingness to travel to events and meetings held off-site.
  • Ability to navigate the 2,700-plus-acre Duke Farms property and travel to other locations, both indoors and outdoors, in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in various outdoor conditions including but not limited to heat, cold, sun exposure and wet weather with potential exposure to environmental factors such as poison ivy, ticks and mosquitoes.
  • A valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with drone footage preferred.
  • Proven interest or background in climate, sustainability, land stewardship or environmental education a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Produce Compelling Content That Brings Restoration to Life
  • Create original, high-quality short-form videos, visual stories and social-first content that highlights restoration projects, biodiversity, climate demonstration work and public programs at Duke Farms.
  • Develop and execute one or more narrative-driven series (e.g., docu-style videos, visual essays) that reflect your unique creative lens and engage new audiences.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes moments, including work by scientists, land stewards and educators, and highlighting our convenings and programs.
  • Translate complex environmental topics into clear, compelling stories.
  • Increase Digital Reach and Engagement Across Platforms
  • Adapt content for multiple platforms including Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
  • Use audience behavior insights and analytics to refine storytelling approaches.
  • Contribute to Strategic Campaigns and Ideation
  • Participate in campaign development and creative brainstorming.
  • Support key moments across the season including programs, convenings and special events such as Climate Week.
  • Identify opportunities to cocreate with influencers, artists or other storytellers.
  • Perform other work, including special projects, as assigned.
