About The Position

Gap Inc. is seeking a visionary and hands-on Creative Director to lead visual identity, experiential design, and creative systems for communications and engagement. This role defines and stewards how the brand comes to life across physical, digital, print, social, and experiential touchpoints—owning the creative vision, visual standards, and design frameworks that ensure consistency, relevance, and impact at scale. Working in close partnership with the Senior Creative Director of Brand Experience, this role balances big-picture creative leadership with high-level execution. You will set creative direction, guide interdisciplinary teams, and oversee the development of immersive brand experiences, campaigns, and cultural moments—while establishing scalable visual design systems that enable speed, clarity, and excellence across a global organization. This is a senior creative leadership role within the Comms and Engagement org, responsible for shaping how Gap Inc. shows up visually and experientially in the world.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in creative leadership, including senior Designer, Art Director and/ or Creative Director roles.
  • A strong visual storyteller with deep understanding of how design, space, motion, and content work together to drive brand impact.
  • A confident and strategic leader with experience managing cross-disciplinary creative teams.
  • Proven ability to concept and execute across both 2D and 3D environments, with a sharp eye for detail and systems thinking.
  • Deep expertise in branding, typography, color, layout, print, and environmental/spatial design.
  • Strong presentation skills and the ability to sell ideas to senior internal stakeholders.
  • Experience working within a creative studio, agency, or in-house brand team.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, complex organization and managing multiple workstreams at once.
  • A portfolio demonstrating strong creative vision, systems thinking, and polished execution.
  • A passion for turning brand strategy into lived, tactile, and emotionally resonant experiences.
  • The ability to move fluidly between big-picture creative direction and refined design details.
  • Cultural fluency, curiosity, and a collaborative leadership style.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in experiential agencies, retail environments, fashion, entertainment, or large-scale brand activations.
  • Experience partnering with fabricators, set builders, and spatial designers.
  • Knowledge of event production workflows, experiential technologies, and sustainable production practices.
  • Experience directing social-native or UGC-style content at scale.
  • Motion or video design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Creative Vision & Leadership Set and steward the visual design vision across comms and engagement channels, ensuring work is conceptually strong, culturally relevant, and on brand.
  • Own final creative direction and approval across experiential design, visual identity, campaigns, and brand moments.
  • Translate brand strategy and communications objectives into clear creative frameworks and immersive visual concepts.
  • Experiential & Visual Design Lead concept development and creative direction for experiential activations, installations, branded events, and 360° brand experiences.
  • Oversee how brand stories are expressed in physical space—through layout, materials, lighting, signage, color, and interaction.
  • Partner with environmental designers, producers, and fabricators to bring experiences to life, ensuring creative integrity through execution.
  • Visual Identity & Design Systems Own and evolve visual identities across experiential, digital, print, and social touchpoints.
  • Develop and maintain style guides, creative toolkits, templates, and scalable design systems that support brand growth and consistency.
  • Establish creative standards that enable teams to work faster without sacrificing quality.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration Lead, manage, and grow an interdisciplinary creative team of full-time and freelance talent, including designers, photographers, videographers, and content creators.
  • Set clear creative direction, provide thoughtful feedback, and mentor team members to do their best work.
  • Oversee creative resourcing, workflows, and quality control in partnership with producers and cross-functional leads.
  • Content & Production Oversight Oversee creative and art direction and production of photography, video, motion, and content assets from concept through execution.
  • Direct on-set and on- location shoots, ensuring cohesion with brand tone, campaign goals, and experiential narratives.
  • Guide the development of social-first content for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, extending physical experiences into digital storytelling.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership Collaborate closely with communications, events, social, and marketing partners to ensure cohesive storytelling across all touchpoints.
  • Present creative concepts to senior stakeholders, clearly articulating vision, rationale, and executional approach.
  • Stay current on experiential, cultural, and design trends to continuously push creative boundaries.
