About The Position

Underwrites and provides recommendations on standard to highly complex commercial loan requests according to MACU standards, participates in team administration functions and participates in all aspects of the CRE lending cycle. Collaborates with commercial loan officers to accurately present findings in credit analysis, including business rationale and risk mitigations, in order to obtain credit approval and meet member needs.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of commercial underwriting experience or an equal level of demonstrated ability (five years of lending experience preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in business, finance, economics or related field. Education will be verified.
  • Five years in a progressive financial setting may be substituted for a relevant degree.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with analytical and reporting software preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations.
  • Demonstrated ability to present information in a manner appropriate for key stakeholders and all levels of the organization.
  • Strong writing and grammatical skills relating to preparing credit memos, addendums, memorandums, and all forms of written communication.
  • Unquestioned personal and professional integrity.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter with strong organizing and time management skills and the ability to work productively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrites highly complex commercial loans including construction loans, lines of credit, equipment financing and loans with global cash flow considerations; prepares credit presentations, documenting credit analyses and recommendation for credit decision to approving authority.
  • Prepares timely, concise and accurate credit recommendations with limited supervision or revision. Includes: (1) quantitative components within the underwriting narrative ; (2) accurate use of risk rating scoring matrix, both quantitative and qualitative rating elements, to ensure loans are properly risk-rated; and (3) accurate identification and mitigation of all policy exceptions, procedures and compliance regulations.
  • Has an expert understanding of the commercial underwriting processes aligning specifically with MACU policy and standards.
  • Understands and demonstrates a high level of written communication relating to credit presentations, addendums, memorandums and all forms of written communication.
  • Analyzes repayment ability including business and personal cash flow.
  • Performs financial ratio analysis comparative to industry standards.
  • Performs financial stress testing analysis.
  • Reviews and interprets personal and business credit reports.
  • Reviews professional commercial real estate appraisals and associated third party reviews.
  • Reviews professional environmental reports and assesses environmental risk.
  • Performs internal real estate valuations.
  • Attends loan committee.
  • May be asked to coach, mentor, or train others and teach coursework as subject matter expert.
  • Ensures regular communication through the origination process with loan officers, loan closers, management and members.
  • Is able to manage in excess of five loan files at a given time.
  • Works together with team members to accomplish monthly, quarterly and annual goals.
  • Provides excellent customer service over the phone, email and in person.
  • Maintains working knowledge of MACU policies and procedures regarding the Bank Secrecy Act and other regulations that apply to the position.
  • Takes personal initiative and is a positive example for others to emulate.
