About The Position

The Crane & Hoist Service Technician III is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of overhead crane systems in industrial environments. This role requires expertise in both mechanical and electrical systems, including motor controls, contactor circuits, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and crane safety systems. The technician will lead and direct crews through crane overhauls, troubleshoot complex breakdowns, and provide training and mentorship to junior technicians. The position demands a commitment to high-quality service, safety, and operational reliability. The Levell III Technician typically has 8-10+ years of relevant experience in crane and hoist maintenance. This role requires technical mastery, leadership, mentoring and training skills as well as strong safety compliance knowledge and customer communication skills. This position will train and mentor Level I and Level II Technicians.

Requirements

  • Expert knowledge of industrial electrical power control systems and circuits.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex crane electrical and mechanical failures.
  • Extensive knowledge of overhead crane mechanical systems and operational components.
  • Advanced understanding of industrial control systems and crane electrical architecture.
  • Expertise in crane safety systems and anti-collision systems
  • Ability to safely lead and direct crews through complete crane overhauls and VFD upgrades.
  • Ability to plan and execute complex electrical and mechanical service projects.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to train, mentor, and develop Level I and Level II technicians.
  • Ability to perform and supervise comprehensive crane inspections and load testing.
  • Strong diagnostic ability using advanced testing equipment and troubleshooting methods.
  • Strong commitment to safety, service quality, and customer satisfaction
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 7+ years of experience in overhead crane service, industrial electrical systems, or crane modernization.
  • Extensive experience with VFD systems, motor controls, and industrial control circuits.
  • Demonstrated experience leading major crane repairs, upgrades, or modernization projects.
  • Proven ability to train and mentor technical personnel.
  • Pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and criminal background check
  • Be able to provide valid documentation to provide proof of work authorization citizenship in accordance with I-9 document
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude
  • Report to work at the designated start time
  • Willing to travel to various work sites or training as required
  • Willing to work overtime, nights and weekends when necessary
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures and comply with the Company’s “Stop Work” policy
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designation operations and production areas as directed
  • Have the willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers and Supervisor with other duties as required

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct complete crane overhauls, including electrical power control system upgrades and VFD installations.
  • Safely supervise crews during complex maintenance, repair, and modernization projects.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical power control systems, including motor controls, contactor circuits, and VFDs.
  • Apply expert knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls, and circuits to resolve complex crane issues.
  • Perform and oversee electrical and mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades on overhead cranes.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and maintain crane safety systems, including limit switches, slack rope switches, and anti-collision systems.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety regulations, company standards, and operational best practices.
  • Conduct and supervise crane inspections and load testing to verify safe and reliable operation.
  • Lead, train, and mentor Level I and Level II technicians, providing guidance on crane diagnostics, electrical work, breakdown response, and maintenance procedures.
  • Oversee the execution and quality of electrical and mechanical service projects, ensuring efficiency and safety.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools and technical expertise to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of inspections, maintenance, repairs, and test results.
  • Provide high-level customer service, working with clients to identify needs and deliver reliable crane solutions.
  • Demonstrate extensive expertise in overhead crane systems, including both electrical and mechanical components.
  • Other duties as required.
