About The Position

Position Summary The selected candidate for Crane Operator is responsible for inspecting the condition of the work site prior to crane set up. Will transport material such as machinery, equipment and other construction products in the shipyard. Must be aware of how much material can be lifted safely based upon weather conditions and the capacity of the crane. Plans, specifies and positions rigging equipment for accomplishing work in a safe and efficient manner. Additionally, inspects and maintains crane against any defects or malfunctions. Reads and interpret job specifications and works with minimum supervision. Responsible for maintaining housekeeping, keeping worksite free of waste and keeping materials and equipment stowed in an orderly manner. May be assigned miscellaneous tasks outside craft as required Key Responsibilities & Functional Knowledge This list is representative of the key areas of responsibility and functional knowledge required of an operator in the Crane shop: Intermediate knowledge means that the mechanic understands how to perform tasks in these categories (including, but not limited to, the specific tasks identified below) and is able to complete them independently, without assistance. This also means that the mechanic has the necessary level of knowledge of the equipment, protective gear, and machinery required to complete these tasks. The mechanic must demonstrate developing knowledge in the following key areas: • Crane Operation o Qualified to operate 2 or more electrically, hydraulic and manual powered cranes in a seated position o Qualified to operate at least one portable crane to include: G8, G7, G3, wing wall crane, diesel electric, diesel hydro, all electric o Understanding of cranes and functions • Crane & Lift Maintenance o Assist with maintenance of the cranes and lifts daily o Understand all lubrication • General Crane Housekeeping o Clean, grease and perform general housekeeping for the cranes • Crane Safety o Understand crane safety limits, devices and locations that make the cranes safe to use o Understand all procedures for fire, accident or injury prevention and response • Other Heavy Equipment o Must have knowledge to work with heavy equipment

Requirements

  • Education NCCER/NCCO certification
  • Must have minimum of 5 years continuous experience in Hydraulic Mobile Crane operation in a shipyard or similar environment.
  • Must possess current DOT physical certification.
  • Must pass a written and practical exam and maintain proficiency in all qualified cranes.
  • Must be able to read and interpret all load charts and be able to interpret hand and voice signals.
  • Must be proficient in determining how much material can be lifted safely based upon weather conditions and the capacity of the crane.
  • Must plan, specify and position rigging equipment for accomplishing work in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Must inspect and maintain crane against any defects or malfunctions.
  • Must be able to read and interpret job specifications and works with minimum supervision.
  • Will be responsible for maintaining housekeeping, keeping worksite free of waste and keeping materials and equipment stowed in an orderly manner.
  • Must apply safe crane and rigging practices at all times.
  • Must accomplish daily inspections, documenting logs as legal records.
  • Must perform maintenance (lubrication) and be familiar with assembly and disassembly of qualified cranes.
  • Must participate in J.H.A. (Job Hazard Analysis) program.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Defense Identification Biometric System (DBIDS) in accordance with local government policies.
