About The Position

Crane Operators are responsible for safely maneuvering overhead cranes to transport raw materials, intermediate products, and finished goods throughout the plant. With expertise in handling various types of cranes, they ensure timely and precise movement of materials, contributing to the smooth workflow and productivity of the steel manufacturing process. Additionally, crane operators adhere to strict safety protocols to prevent accidents and maintain a secure working environment within the plant.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate the capability to work safely and efficiently in a dynamic production environment.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift to 50 pounds and sustain prolonged periods of standing on a concrete floor.
  • Strong communication skills and teamwork are essential for effective collaboration within the team.
  • Proficiency in utilizing tape measures, micrometers, and calipers.
  • Valid forklift driver's license, with the ability to operate within specified capacities and conduct necessary inspections.
  • Competence in operating and performing inspections on all overhead cranes within the facility.
  • Familiarity with various lift devices such as ID lifters (skids), spreader bars, "C" hooks, sheet lifters, etc.
  • Ability to effectively utilize Stratix Software.
  • Candidate should be eligible for a hi-lo license and possess proficiency in utilizing a range of tools and equipment, including calipers, tape measures, micrometers, hand tools, and plasma cutters.
  • Familiarity with telecommunications, computers, and the operation of overhead cranes is required.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to all safety regulations outlined in the Plant Employee Manual for the protection of personnel and facility integrity.
  • Ensures punctuality and adherence to attendance policies as outlined in the Attendance Policy within the Plant Employee Manual.
  • Conducts thorough inspections of crane equipment and surrounding areas at the commencement of each shift.
  • Utilizes two-way radio communication to coordinate with crane operators for efficient coil location.
  • Executes coil-cutting procedures as needed for sampling purposes.
  • Attaches and manages inventory tags as part of inventory control processes.
  • Delivers scheduled materials to designated staging or operational areas as specified.
  • Facilitates the movement of processed coils to support packaging line operations when necessary.
  • Transport materials for Shipping/Receiving/Material Handling as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
