The Crane Operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, reposition loads, and unload crane accessories from trailer or support vehicles. This role involves team collaboration, working with and receiving direction from riggers and/or site supervision via verbal or hand signals to determine required load movement, and also acting as ground crew depending on tasks. Operators must adhere to appropriate safety procedures and maintain logs of vehicle repair status and working hours (FMCSA). Key duties include operating various types of cranes such as All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawlers, Industrial, Hydraulic Trucks, Conventional Trucks, and Boom Trucks. Hydraulic Truck Crane Operators specifically operate diesel-powered cranes mounted on truck-type chassis to lift materials, objects, or personnel. The operator drives the crane to the worksite, sets it up according to manufacturer's manuals and company rules, and directs oilers, truck drivers, or helpers in equipment assembly/disassembly. They perform pre- and post-trip inspections, daily and monthly equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and carry tools for repairs. The operator is responsible for barricading counterweight tail swing and working radius, and taking complete charge of all safety pertaining to crane assembly, disassembly, and operation, including wearing PPE. They must understand and complete job tickets for customer acceptance and billing, drive trucks to worksites, and unload them. Brief travel, normally nothing longer than a week, is expected. Other duties may be assigned.
