The Crane Operator is responsible for operating a mobile crane to lift, move, position, reposition loads, and unload crane accessories from trailers or support vehicles. This role requires effective team collaboration, as the Operator works closely with riggers and site supervision, receiving direction through verbal or hand signals to determine the required load movement. Depending on the task, the Operator may also work as part of the ground crew. Safety is paramount in this position, and Operators must adhere to appropriate safety procedures while maintaining logs of vehicle repair status and working hours in compliance with FMCSA regulations. Essential duties include operating various types of cranes, such as All Terrain, Rough Terrain, Crawlers, Industrial, Hydraulic Trucks, Conventional Trucks, and Boom Trucks. The Operator is responsible for driving the crane to the work site, setting it up according to the manufacturer's operators manual and company rules regarding cribbing and matting. They will direct the activities of oilers, truck drivers, or helpers during the assembly and disassembly of equipment. The Operator must perform pre- and post-trip inspections, conduct routine maintenance, and carry tools for running repairs. They are also responsible for properly barricading the counterweight tail swing and working radius, ensuring safety during assembly, disassembly, and operation of the crane. The Crane Operator must wear appropriate PPE safety equipment and understand how to fill out job tickets for customer acceptance of responsibility for the job site and billing. The position may require brief travel, typically not exceeding one week, and includes any other duties as assigned by the employer.
