About The Position

The Crane Operator position at Koppers Railroad Structures involves operating cranes and assisting in the repair and construction of railroad bridges across the United States and Canada. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class A or Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brakes.
  • Previous experience with heavy outdoor physical labor and exposure to heights.
  • Experience in operating hydraulic cranes and reading load charts.
  • NCCCO Certification preferred (Fixed cab, Boom truck).
  • Ability to successfully complete gas mask, lead exposure, respirator usage, and Fall Protection training programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in different types of bridge construction and methods of repair.
  • Experience with heavy equipment operation including excavator, skid steer, forklift, and grapple truck.

Responsibilities

  • Perform crane operation and assist with general repair and construction of railroad bridges throughout the United States and Canada.
  • Complete daily DOT logs, crane inspections, truck inspections, and required weekly reports.
  • Read and understand crane operator manuals for safe crane operation.
  • Read load charts and operate within the capacity of the charts.
  • Use proper rigging and hand signals when making a lift, ensuring not to exceed weight limits as posted on load charts.
  • Perform and document daily, weekly, and monthly crane inspections.
  • Operate rail gear properly and perform scheduled maintenance on crane, truck, and hyrails as required.
  • Keep the truck organized and maintain cleanliness of the interior and exterior.
  • Assist in general labor duties, including removing steel rivets, tightening structural steel bolts, and painting steel.
  • Operate various power tools to assist in the repair of concrete structures.
