About The Position

The Crane Operator is an Individual Contributor responsible for the operation of overhead bridge cranes. The incumbent is responsible for securing loads and moving suspended loads throughout the department by operating the remote-controlled bridge cranes.

Requirements

  • The ability to calculate simple mathematics and interpret shop drawings.
  • Ability to become Valmont trained and certified overhead crane operator.
  • The ability to read a tape measure.
  • The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues.
  • The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people.
  • The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
  • The ability to meet production, safety, and quality standards in a high-paced working environment.
  • The ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is up to 20 pounds.
  • High awareness for safety at all times.
  • Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow facility safety regulations.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year previous experience operating overhead bridge crane.
  • One (1) year previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
  • The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities in order to prevent overload.
  • Use remotes (speed and direction control buttons) to operate cranes for lifting, moving, and placing loads.
  • Inspect cables and grappling devices for wear.
  • Inspect crane mechanisms and lifting accessories in order to prevent malfunctions and damage.
  • Review daily work and delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, and special loading instructions.
  • Keep other workers supplied with materials, tools and supplies.
  • Set up and operate a variety of grinding machines; grind metal work pieces according to knowledge of grinding procedures.
  • Actively participate in department safety, demonstrating excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures.
