About The Position

This position is with the Crane Engineering and Quality Engineering group overseeing certification and repairs of bridge, gantry, whirler, and mobile cranes . The primary responsibility will be developing and issuing technical directions after thorough on-site troubleshooting and evaluations. Some circuit design may be required. Individual will be required to work closely with maintenance departments. This position requires occasional on-call duty, infrequent shift rotation, or weekend work as determined by the program. Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience; Master’s Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience; Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice To Haves

  • Climbing and working at heights is common.
  • Candidate should have significant electrical engineering experience with electrical system design, maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial equipment and/or crane/lifting and handling equipment.
  • Supports crane breakdown response and certification cycles.
  • Experience with VFD driven motors and radio controls for both AC & DC systems.
  • Preferred proficiency in PLC programming, Auto CAD, and relevant electrical engineering software.
  • Preferred to have knowledge of electrical codes, standard, and regulations.
  • Self-motivated with strong leadership, effective communication, and computer skills are essential.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with a focus on efficiency and reliability.
  • Strong project management, collaboration, and organizational skills are preferred.
  • Candidates may need the ability to be attain a security clearance and be TLD qualified.
