About The Position

Under direct supervision, perform tasks involving physical labor for renovation, repairs, and new construction of task orders. Work to include rough and finish carpentry, concrete work, civil work, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry work, duct work installation, doors and windows, roof coating, ceiling works, and daily housekeeping (interior and exterior of project site). May operate a variety of hand and power tools and other equipment including manlifts, pallet movers, and ATVs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) preferred.
  • Five to ten (5-10) years of directly related construction experience; or an equivalent combination of education, including apprenticeship program or vocational/technical school, and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed below.
  • Basic knowledge of and demonstrated experience with basic construction-type work.
  • Basic understanding on operating a variety of equipment including hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with safe work practices and policies as well as safe driving rules and practices.
  • Ability to read and understand measuring tools and devices, warning signs and labels on a construction site.
  • Ability to interpret plans, drawings, and written instructions and specifications.
  • Ability to read and understand work orders and organize work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively and amicably with co-workers, and other people (Supervisor, Subordinates, Supplies, Customers).
  • Ability to hear and speak, to communicate in-person and over a telephone and/or radio.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team situation.
  • Possess basic problem-solving and math skills.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check which includes 7-year employment verification, Department of Motor Vehicles record search, criminal record search, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses as applicable to the position.
  • Ability to pass HAZWOPER physical and wear a respirator as required for project.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug screens.
  • Must be available for regular standby assignments and work scheduled off-hours and emergency overtime as required.
  • Must be available for short term work assignments that involve overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Load, unload, and identify materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications.
  • Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities.
  • Able to execute work as a rough and finish carpenter, plumbing, minor electrical work with supervision, preparing formworks and reinforcing bars for concrete and masonry work.
  • Provide finishes work to include preparation of surface for painting, application of paint, installing drywall, acoustical ceiling, roof coatings, ductwork, flooring, and tile works.
  • Lubricate and clean machinery, equipment, and tools as needed.
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards, to include bush cutting and cleaning up any debris.
  • Control traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers, and rakes.
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.
  • Mop, brush, or spread paints, cleaning solutions, or other compounds over surfaces to clean them or to provide protection. This will include power washing of the structure as part of the preparation.
  • Operate jackhammers and drills to break up concrete or pavement.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment, and materials.
  • Assist others on the project wherever needed.
