About The Position

The CRA Community Development MLO’s focus is business development/mortgage loan activities in low‐ and moderate‐income communities and borrowers in support of the community development initiatives of the Bank.  This position works closely with the Bank’s Community Development Officer and Liaison to achieve these goals and objectives.  This position requires availability and flexibility to attend evening and weekend events and workshops.   This is a commissioned based position with prescribed annual loan origination goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, etc.
  • 5 years’ experience as a residential mortgage loan originator with established business contacts
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess motivation to meet and drive sales targets.
  • Ability to develop meaningful relationships with internal customers and external customers.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of business technology, including but not limited to, mortgage loan operating systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Active NMLS license (unique ID) required.
  • Require travel between Customer sites, Provident Offices, or Branches

Responsibilities

  • Originate loans within the scope of the goals established by Management annually. Conducts pre-qualification interviews with prospective borrowers to discuss the different loan programs and products that are available.  Initiate loan applications either by the internet or telephone, in person, by fax or email.  Utilize personalized websites to facilitate online inquiries, prequalification and applications.
  • Submit new loan applications with supporting documentation via Encompass for processing and credit decisioning.  Provide appropriate follow-up and meet with borrowers to obtain required documents and problem-solve, as needed.  Promptly respond to all customer inquiries.
  • Conduct business development activities, such as, developing relationships and contacts in government-sponsored, not‐for-profit housing agencies, community development agencies, realtors, and lending businesses in low- to moderate-income communities within the Bank assessment area.
  • Month activities include workshops, seminars, outreach events, branch mortgage day/lunch and learns or other group activities that serve these entities. These activities may be jointly conducted with the entity or within a Provident Bank branch that services the low- to moderate-income housing interests.
  • Maintain a Sales Activity Calendar/Report for tracking and management review.  Minimum of 2 focused business development calls and/or appointments and minimum of 2 activities required monthly.
  • Maintains and preserves existing referral sources by regular sales calls and personal client meetings.  Maintains strong contacts with assigned branches and a regular schedule of visits to the branches to provide the customer base with mortgage financing information. Cross-selling Bank products and services.
  • Participate in bank-wide events, training or sales meetings as required by management.  Provide call reports or weekly business development plans as requested by the Sales Manager. Maintain a working knowledge of the residential mortgage products, investor guidelines, basic compliance requirements, and industry standards and best practices.  Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the Bank Affordable Housing products, including portfolio, FHA, USDA, and Housing Finance Agency.
